The first week of Xmin came and went! After so much preparation, prayer and attention to detail the day was upon us. It’s like when you’re a kid and you wait for Christmas… almost can’t sleep the night before! A week ago Saturday we were eagerly awaiting the arrival of 9 new students and two returning. We got them moved into their lofts, which I have to say are pretty sweet, then they hugged their families goodbye and we set off on our 8 month journey.
But really, we know this isn’t just an 8 month journey. No, we’re not keeping them here forever and ever, but Xmin is really about being a disciple, and that’s not something you enroll in for just 8 months. A disciple is a life long learner. There’s nothing more exciting than giving your life to God, the type of giving that doesn’t ask for it back when you’re tired, or complacent, or just want a break. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be part of it, and a part of each student’s life. To see young adults willingly give a period of their lives to being more like Jesus is one of the greatest joys, ever. Personally it is more than challenging in my own commitment, discipline, and desire to be like Jesus. It’s almost like a re-signing of the commitment I made to him years and years ago.
As we’ve gone through this first (incredible, fun filled, action packed) week of Xmin I have remembered moments in my life that shaped me and my future, and am happy to say that those moments have not ended. It’s fun to think back, but even more fun to dream with God about my future. It’s an amazing life to be a disciple of Christ. I am thankful for mentors, teachers, pastors and parents who have poured endless hours into my life at different seasons, now I get to give a little back. That’s humbling. Here you’ll get to see glimpses of the wonderful things God is working in our students, and in us as leaders.
I am so encouraged by the courage and heart I see in our students. More stories and updates are coming…look for essays coming soon, as well as pictures from some of our first week together!
